Riverdale School
Accelerated Reader/AR Volunteers
The Riverdale School Accelerated Reader Store relies volunteers to reward Riverdale students for reading. The average Riverdale student (K - 8th) passed 73 A.R. tests last year!! That is a lot of reading. We are proud of our students!!
What is the A. R. Store?

3rd Quarter News:
Hello AR volunteers!
The third quarter of the Accelerated Reader program ends this week. We will be asking all of the reading teachers to input their AR orders by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 10th. This should give us time to run reports and make purchases before Spring Break.
If you are helping with order entry, please contact your assigned teacher(s) and make arrangements to come in and help on Monday 3/8, Tuesday 3/9 or Wednesday 3/10. If you are not already assigned to a teacher, please let us know that you are willing to help and we will pair you up with someone. We always need more volunteers for order entry.
Everyone, please make plans to come on Thursday, March 25th at 8:00 am to fill orders (stuff bags) in the cafeteria. Third quarter is typically a big one, and we will need many hands to get the orders out on time. If you can stay and help with Pick-a-Book, let us know that too. Pick-a-Book usually starts at around 10:00 or 10:30, after we have finished filling all of the prize orders.
Thank you for all of your time and energy. The kids love this program, and it would not exist without its many wonderful volunteers.
-The AR Moms
Each quarter, Riverdale students are rewarding for reading and taking A. R. tests. They are given the opportunity to select items on the A. R. Store order form based on the number of points they have accrued. They get to decide how many points to spend, and any remaining points are carried over to the next quarter (all points must be spent in the 4th quarter as points are not carried over year-to-year). Prizes vary from "cool" pens, "pick a book" (selecting from new books) to I-tunes cards.
Students K - 8th (Kindergarten only participates during 4th quarter) read A. R. books for their reading level and are tested at school. Based on the percentage correct, points are earned. At the end of each quarter, students are given an order form with points available and prize choices. They can spend any amount of points accrued or choose to save points.
Once orders are input by students (older grades), teachers and volunteers, members of the A. R. Volunteer Committee merge the totals into a database and order prizes accordingly for "Distribution Day".
You get to be an important part of the process on "Distribution Day". On Distribution Day, volunteers meet in the cafeteria at 8:00 am to begin stuffing student's bags with A. R. prizes and deliver them to classes. This is a wonderful opportunity to see what the program is all about and to meet other parents as well. We usually are finished by 10:00 am but we appreciate any amount of time you can give.
We hope you will consider being a part of this important volunteer effort. If you would like join this list and to have "A. R. News" emailed to you, please email: Riverdale A. R. Volunteer Committee.
This "just in" from our faculty chair, Lisa Winter...Your help needed:
On some items at Target, you get a free $5 gift card with purchase. Since this is one of the AR Store prizes, it would be awesome if some of you donated your $5 gift cards to the AR Store. We also have a need for $5 Walmart gift cards, $5 Blockbuster cards, $3 TCBY cards, $10 iTunes cards, and $10 Malco cards. More of these are “purchased” from the AR store in the last couple of school quarters when students will have saved more AR points. Please consider a donation. We also have to buy some merchandise from Target and Walmart (including Fruit Roll-ups), so if we receive more donations that are ordered by students, we can use them to purchase other AR Store merchandise. Thanks!
Contact ARSTORE for details or send items labeled "Lisa Winter/AR" to the school office. Thank you!!
