Frequently Asked Questions...
Who is my child's counselor?
Kindergarten, 1st - 3rd grade - Dr. Stacy Stevens
Kindergarten, 4th, 7th, & 8th - Mrs. Kathleen Fisher
Fifth & Sixth - Jacqueline Williams
What does the school counselor do?
We go into your child's class for 30 minutes every other week to discuss social skills, organizational skills, character building, career awareness, academic support, friend issues, and a variety of other topics that are tailored to their grade level. We also provide individual counseling, group counseling, and overall support to the students, parents, and teachers.
Can I talk to any counselor?
Yes, any of the counselors are available to speak with you or your child. You may talk to whomever you feel most comfortable, however the counselors are split into grade levels for the purpose of classroom instruction.
Who can I call when my child is having trouble at home or school?
Any school counselor at Riverdale is always eager to help. Phone or email are great lines of communication! The students are our main focus and we want them to feel happy and safe at home and in school. It is important for the councelors to be informed in order to provide an effective learning environment for your child.
How can my child contact the school counselor?
Your student can write a note and ask their teacher to put it in the counselor's box or ask his/her teacher for permission to come to the counseling office.
We welcomed two new faces to our school counseling team last year:
- Ms. Williams joins us from Hardeman Co. TN, where she was an ROTC high school instructor for five years. Ms. Williams recently finished her Master in counseling from the University of Memphis after retiring from a career in the military.
- Dr. Stevens joins us from Haralson Co. GA, where she was a 2nd grade teacher. She has nine years of experience in education including middle school counseling and Reading instruction. She recived her MA in Counseling from UT Martin and a Doctorate in Leadership and Administration from Union University in 2005.
